Tonight I shot a simple and elegant little civil ceremony at Shopikka’s home. I typically prefer a smaller guestlist than what our cultural tradition calls for, and I like the fact that you are so close to everyone there. It is a party for YOU and your immediate family. That’s perfect.

I also loved how she coordinated the purples and went with a vibrant theme. I think cool colors work really well in winter.

I am making a promise to myself going forward, that I will start my edits the moment I get home If I can, and I’m glad I got this done today.

Hey folks,

It has been quite hectic for the last little while. And I had a lot on my plate and a lot on my list. But then I got sick during the holiday season and had lost a lot of days of work. Now I am in serious catch up mode, working through a wedding a week. Almost done all of 2011 and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve always thought I just lacked motivation sometimes, but I realized what I was really missing was a way to channel my ADHD and get back to things I love. I am very much an 8 year old boy when it comes to staying focused but its something I am working on in 2012. Anyway. Enough about me. You come here to see pictures, not to hear my bitching. So I will leave you with a teaser of how I started the New Year, 4 indoor shoots so far, and its amazing how much you can do with a white canvas if you just push yourself to think outside the box. Motion is something I love in photography, and this shot is why.

So I was checking out some of Jonathan Penney’s work online and was inspired to go photoshop crazy for a few minutes. With the release of Lightroom, photoshop has taken a backseat for many photographers. I just want to make sure that I still knew a thing or two about dodging/burning and selective sharpening in PS. This also has a subtle texture

Over the last 3 years I learned quite a lot…

…About photography, about myself and about the love and blessing of family & friends. But I noticed that I was not sharing enough of that. I was not talking, or communicating enough. I kept it all in. I told myself, “not any longer”. I want to give back, to my community, to my friends and my photographer-friend-circle. So going forward, I want to make this promise publicly so I know I can’t just back out of it since everyone knows about it!

Here are my goals for the new year:

1. I will write more. I tried to start my own private blog, and it didn’t really take off, because I realized that my personal life and my photography are too close to separate. My goal is to write a minimum of 400 words a day, about anything. And post it here. I know this is my business front, but I don’t want to differentiate my business and personal life anymore. I am willing to live and love life with my business on my heart always.

2. I will share knowledge. I’ve been told that I am a hoarder of information, and I know quite a bit about a lot of useless and sometimes useful things. I think its a good time to start sharing some of the useful things with my friends. I think this will most likely end up being How-to video’s or just information that I found online. And most of this will be photography related. And of course some of it might not be. So stay tuned for some cool random stuff!

3. Finish what I start, soon. This is a very important goal for me. This is me promising the world that all wedding and portrait projects taken on by DIVINEMETHOD will be completed in a month or less. I want to give out your wedding work back to you within 2 weeks. I know a great deal of family and friends ask “where are your pics” in the first two weeks of your wedding. And when you go out to visit your friends and family after coming back from your honeymoon, I’d like you to be able to proudly share your beautiful images! Though I have been on top of posting teasers or a highlight portion of weddings, due to my health and other concerns things have dragged a little bit. But that’s not the case going forward. And my experience and ability will assure that this goal is taken care of.

4. Be a better husband, and brother. My friends are my family — actually, Andrew always corrects me when I say friends, he says I have no friends, only family. To all my friends I am their brother, and vise versa. And I haven’t really given them all the time I can, and being busy is part of life, and though I spend time with my friends, I know I can do better. And most importantly, my patient and loving wife; I must offer her all that she deserves. And 2012 wont be any different as I will continue to strive to be the best husband I can be

5. Read ten random books over the year. I love reading. And recently though, I have just been using LOTR to fall asleep. That’s not fair to JRR or any other good book. I am just going to get on the reading wagon and stay on. Simple as that.

I remember back when I wasn’t so busy and I was buying DSLRs with OSAP money and I used to think I was such an awesome photographer! Boy did I learn that the most important quality a good photographer can have is humility. It hit me like a slap in the face once I saw some great photographers and their work. Since then, I still yearn to get better, everyday.

Here’s something I’ve taken a million years ago when the Canon 30D was the shizznit:

So next Monday, I will post what I will be doing to action my goals for the new year!! I am very excited!!!!

Its been a while since I posted to my blog...

Its been a while since I posted to my blog — but I hope you guys check out my facebook page http://facebook.com/divinemethodphoto for updates! The wedding season in Toronto for Tamil and Hindu weddings have been slowing down — so for me its all editing and album making season now! Then hopefully I can get some time to plan out my vacation!

Anyway, I will make a post about my personal life and status later but for now I’d like to post a wedding and reception of two awesome friends of mine — Inthu and Sangar -

I dont know if I wrote this here about them already but Sangar had a crush on Inthu since they were both kids, and he had even wrote her a love letter when he was a child. She thought he had cooties and ran the other way, only to fall in his arms a decade or so later, and finally get married to the guy who loved her from her childhood. Such cute stories are what I yearn for in my line of work because showing off real love is a joy! – These two are genuinely beautiful inside and out, and it shows in their pictures.

Sangar loves his fancy cars and got a hold of a Lambo and an R8 — Though an evening Hindu wedding typically means we dont get a lot of time to shoot portraits (the car shots we did after the temple, we did in a few minutes) but the next day for the reception we shot a lot more at the Guild Inn in Scarborough, and they had their reception at Princess Banquet hall (yes the decor made the place look awesome) I always say, the decor of the place makes a huge deal, no matter where it is. So get a good decorator and your event will look amazing!

Its been an amazing and incredible summer this year — I’ve been photographing so many incredible weddings and engagement shoots this year and been so busy with it all. But its a good kind of busy! When Jia and Rifat came to me and told me they wanted to style their shoot slightly vintage but keep it on a clean white backdrop, I was pretty stoked — working with studio strobes is something I love to do but really don’t get much time to do it, so I was looking forward to this opportunity. However, the images that I ended up liking most were the ones we pulled out the video light for! Go figure! Here are some teaser shots! What I loved about these two was that they had a vision and wasn’t afraid to share it!

It was such a windy day outside, so I couldn’t help but capture a shot with the saree flying in the wind. We did this twice or three times, but the first shot came out the best!

Thanushan and Bristina got married a few weeks back (you can see their Hindu Ceremony Here.) Thanushan is a good friend and a fellow videographer check out http://www.digitalfusionpro.com/ for some of his awesome work. I really liked their decor set up that was done by Abi Jegan from Geethams http://www.geethamsbanquet.com. I’ve been to this banquet hall before, and have seen the “hall package” decor — and typically its nothing to write home about. It shows the importance of having a good planner and decor services at your venue. Especially if you are looking to make your event look the best.
