Over the last 3 years I learned quite a lot…

…About photography, about myself and about the love and blessing of family & friends. But I noticed that I was not sharing enough of that. I was not talking, or communicating enough. I kept it all in. I told myself, “not any longer”. I want to give back, to my community, to my friends and my photographer-friend-circle. So going forward, I want to make this promise publicly so I know I can’t just back out of it since everyone knows about it!

Here are my goals for the new year:

1. I will write more. I tried to start my own private blog, and it didn’t really take off, because I realized that my personal life and my photography are too close to separate. My goal is to write a minimum of 400 words a day, about anything. And post it here. I know this is my business front, but I don’t want to differentiate my business and personal life anymore. I am willing to live and love life with my business on my heart always.

2. I will share knowledge. I’ve been told that I am a hoarder of information, and I know quite a bit about a lot of useless and sometimes useful things. I think its a good time to start sharing some of the useful things with my friends. I think this will most likely end up being How-to video’s or just information that I found online. And most of this will be photography related. And of course some of it might not be. So stay tuned for some cool random stuff!

3. Finish what I start, soon. This is a very important goal for me. This is me promising the world that all wedding and portrait projects taken on by DIVINEMETHOD will be completed in a month or less. I want to give out your wedding work back to you within 2 weeks. I know a great deal of family and friends ask “where are your pics” in the first two weeks of your wedding. And when you go out to visit your friends and family after coming back from your honeymoon, I’d like you to be able to proudly share your beautiful images! Though I have been on top of posting teasers or a highlight portion of weddings, due to my health and other concerns things have dragged a little bit. But that’s not the case going forward. And my experience and ability will assure that this goal is taken care of.

4. Be a better husband, and brother. My friends are my family — actually, Andrew always corrects me when I say friends, he says I have no friends, only family. To all my friends I am their brother, and vise versa. And I haven’t really given them all the time I can, and being busy is part of life, and though I spend time with my friends, I know I can do better. And most importantly, my patient and loving wife; I must offer her all that she deserves. And 2012 wont be any different as I will continue to strive to be the best husband I can be :)

5. Read ten random books over the year. I love reading. And recently though, I have just been using LOTR to fall asleep. That’s not fair to JRR or any other good book. I am just going to get on the reading wagon and stay on. Simple as that.

I remember back when I wasn’t so busy and I was buying DSLRs with OSAP money and I used to think I was such an awesome photographer! Boy did I learn that the most important quality a good photographer can have is humility.  It hit me like a slap in the face once I saw some great photographers and their work.  Since then, I still yearn to get better, everyday.

Here’s something I’ve taken a million years ago when the Canon 30D was the shizznit:

So next Monday, I will post what I will be doing to action my goals for the new year!!  I am very excited!!!!
